About the projects:

In 2001 the Data Communications industry standard mechanism for dispensing cable on the job was a wooden flanged reel on a makeshift end stand, which was problematic because it paid out the cable badly. The warping, tangling and overs-spooling it caused were costly problems. Berk Tek challenged us to come up with a solution to these issues. After no success with trying to improve upon the wooden reel design, we worked with a supplier of plastic flanged reels to devise a plastic reel with a special braking mechanism. Combined with the tailor made box to house it, this Reel in a Box system is a sturdy, stationary way to pay out no more cable than is needed, and this efficiency helped Berk Tek to gain in their market share. Though box has been refined several times throughout the years, the same reels are still in use today- proving that this specially engineered project has stood the test of time.
